Dogs love to roam freely, off leash, on trails, and this may make your hike more enjoyable as well. But there are important reasons why owners are requested to leash their dogs when using land trust and other trails. One reason is your pet’s safety. There is always the potential for an encounter with a bear, especially dangerous if there are also cubs with a sow.
Another reason is to prevent the disturbance of ground-nesting birds and potential fledglings. Other small wildlife may be disturbed in their habitat or potentially injured inadvertently. Our trails are designed for the enjoyment of hikers and their pets, to bathe in the richness of our forests with minimal impact on the environment. Thanks for doing your part in this very important cause!
