As the weather warms, wildlife begins moving across the landscape. While driving, look for amphibians, like wood frogs and spotted salamanders, crossing roads to reach wetlands and breed.
Beavers are moving out of their parents’ territory and will move over land to find unoccupied territories. During May and June, female painted and snapping turtles cross roads to find places to lay their eggs.
Paying attention to what is on the road ahead and driving at slower speeds allows animals more time to cross and increases our reaction time in avoiding them.
