Fox Brook Extension and Accessible Trail Update

Fox Brook Trail Extension

In the Summer 2022 newsletter, we told you of our plans for extending our Fox Brook Trail northward to Ivy Mountain State Park.

For this to proceed, we need State approval to cross the new Goshen Wildlife Management Area on the Beech Hill property. We submitted our proposal last Fall and have been told by DEEP that they will meet with us to discuss it. We are hopeful that a mutually advantageous agreement can be reached.

The Land Trust is committed to improving trails for everyone who wants to experience the beauty we are so lucky to have here.

Accessible Trail Update

In our last newsletter, we let you know that the Goshen Land Trust is working with the Town Conservation Commission to install Accessible Trails on the John Ross Trail (Pie Hill Road) and the town trail on East Street North.

We submitted two grant applications and received one with some encouragement to try again for the second larger one. AARP Community Challenge grant program awarded the Land Trust $11,444 for benches and signage on a John Ross Accessible Trail.

AARP has been incredibly generous and allowed us to hold the funding while we wait to resubmit to the CT DEEP Recreation Trails Grant Program to complete the projects. The grant funding would help us build accessible trail loops and accessible parking at John Ross, East Street North, and Camp Cochipianee. The grant is due in March 2024, so cross your fingers for us!

And thank you AARP for awarding us a Community Challenge Grant!
